MILAN, INDIANA
The 31,000-sf lumber production facility was built for Pike Lumber Company in Milan, Indiana as a commercial sawmill. The company is one of Indiana’s largest manufacturer and distributor of kiln-dried hardwood lumber and the company’s largest single investment in their over-100-year history.
The facility consists of five different pre-engineered rigid-frame, single slope buildings that are connected together and each serves a different purpose in the manufacturing process. Each of the five buildings has a different eave height. Together, they make an L-shaped footprint that allows for an efficient movement of the logs and finished product through the facility.
Other special features of this project include a 10-ton building-supported crane system and a large amount of natural lighting due to continuous sidelites at the building eaves. Because of the unique design of the pre-engineered building the new facility for Pike Lumber Company was awarded the Excellence in Design Award by The American Building Company.
